HENRY RONOH
Henry is a self-taught visual artist based in Nairobi, Kenya. With over 5+ years of experience, he is famous for his meticulous paintings in the underground art scene and amongst the youth in Nairobi. Henry practices various types of art such as sculpting, painting, fabric decoration and typography. He has been mentored by artists from the GoDownArts Centre such as Yegonizer and Sammy Lutaya.
The artist is currently undertaking his Bachelor’s Degree in architecture at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). To his name he holds various awards for design prowess such as Architect’s Award 2021, top student in Art-Design K.C.S.E 2018 and a nomination for the MASK prize award. Besides studying architecture, he practices as a visual artist and graphic designer. One of his major projects is MIKOBAAFRICA, a startup for selling unique and authentic bags.
Majority of his projects are just at the intersection of culture and abstraction, mainly aimed at resonating with the connection between people in society.
The artist’s creative process is majorly centered on the in-depth analysis of people’s beliefs and cultures through physical interactions and learning common dexterities within them. This is a clear explanation on the variations seen on his works.
Henry is on a mission to create safe zones for dialogues on the issues affecting society both socially and politically. Such dialogues are aimed at bringing people to a common ground of understanding rather than disassociation.
